Product Development interns are given the unique opportunity of helping to fashion and advance a specific new product line, gaining invaluable insight into the production cycle in the process.
Working as an integral part of your team, you’ll learn all aspects of product development, from concept to production. Interns also have regular interaction with overseas offices, the global vendor community and merchant partners to develop strategy for sourcing Private Brands. Plus, along the way you’ll sharpen your presentation, communications and time management skills.

Our Product Development Summer Internship is offered at our corporate offices in New York City. The program starts in June.
Professional development begins on day one with a combination of structured classes and in-office experiences. During the 8-week paid internship you will work with business partners on your assigned team as well as other key executives across the organization. The structured all-intern sessions will give you an opportunity to network with 100+ headquarter interns while learning about retail innovation and Macy’s big-picture business strategies. You will complete a collaborative group project and present your recommendation to key leaders. At the end of the eight weeks, you will receive performance feedback from your assigned team and leave the internship program with a greater understanding of how to analyze and drive sales.
As a product development intern, you will have the opportunity to learn and make an impact from the start. Working with a team of product experts, you will develop your business knowledge in areas such as: sourcing, negotiation, and production. You will learn the importance of collaboration across teams to drive sales and profitability. At the end of the eight weeks you will leave the internship program with a greater understanding of the Product Life Cycle from concept to customer.

Product Development Executives work closely with our overseas and domestic partners to manage the total production process - from designing to sourcing to costing - of our Private Label goods. Product Development executives possess a strong balance of trend awareness and business savvy to adapt to our consumer's changing needs.
During this 18-month layered development program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of conceptualizing, designing, sourcing, producing, selling and marketing our highly successful Private Brands; your training will supplement hands-on experience with multiple and varied training opportunities.
Assistants learn the operational components of running a successful business while receiving significant exposure and development. This is a developmental role that prepares you for an Associate role.
Associates are given direct responsibility for a particular category within their team's total product line. In many cases, Associates will assume the responsibility of managing and training the Assistants. This is a developmental role that prepares you for a Product Manager role.
Product Managers are responsible for the sales and profitability of a total category of business through strategy development and execution, as well as leading and developing their team of assistants/associates.
Director level is responsible for providing leadership driving and managing the Private Brand business and direct MMG Product Teams in the line development.
Vice Presidents are responsible for directing the strategy and execution for a designated division of business.
In these senior level positions, executives direct the financial objectives, product development, and strategy for multiple divisions of business.
Macy’s is looking for the future leaders of our organization and individuals dedicated to their development. To be eligible for the Product Development Internship, you should be in your junior year, on your way to earning a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred. All majors will be considered for this opportunity.
