When it comes to the successful e-commerce sites, user experience is critical. And Macy’s User Experience team is constantly improving how our site looks, feels and functions.
Our User Experience internship will put you in a position to collaborate with the research team and, by doing so, help augment understanding of Macy’s customers and their ecosystems. You’ll also learn how to merge research findings and best practices with your own innovative thinking to forge unique, strategic solutions that elevate the user experience.
Our User Experience Summer Internship is offered at our Macy’s Systems and Technology locations in Atlanta, GA, Lorain, OH, Mason, OH, as well as our macys.com offices San Francisco, CA. The program starts in June.
Professional development begins on day one of your internship with a combination of structured, hands-on, and classroom-style learning. During internship program, you will spend some time with a mentor assigned by your manager to assist in leadership best-practices and help you grow through continuous constructive feedback. You’ll spend time with your team shadowing and learning. You will attend classroom training to learn leadership and presentation skills from our Learning and Development team. You will also have the opportunity to attend the Executive Speaker Series where you will hear an executive or team present on the projects they are currently working on.
In this role, you will analyze reporting to identify areas for immediate optimization such as pricing, inventory, promotions, and visual updates. You will be working with UX teams and Product Managers to develop research approaches, schedules and detailed test plans. You will also help with synthesizing findings to inform a better understanding of our customers, giving insight into business/user value, and identifying usability issues.
First things first, you will need a solid academic record, and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors or similar majors.
We’ve also determined a few qualities that we seek in candidates. Intellectual curiosity, a positive attitude, and self-motivation are a great start. Beyond that, you should have a sincere passion for engaging with people—and the communication skills to match. We are also looking for leadership experience that includes professional business ethics, assertiveness, and an aptitude for helping others solve problems. Having a good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are key to success in this position. You should be familiar with a variety of research methodologies including usability testing, contextual inquires, focus groups, surveys, unmoderated and remotes studies and diary studies. Having experience with wireframing tools such as Visio and Axure are a plus.
