Site Merchandising

Our Site Merchandising team is endlessly curious about consumer behavior. Because the more we know, the better able we are to apply it, to improve Macy’s online environment and user experience.

Our Site Merchandising internship is a challenging and pivotal program. You’ll manage site content and merchandising, as well as coordinate product placement, execute promotions and manage the creation of product pools for relevant cross-sell suggestions.

Locations and Start Dates

Our Site Merchandise Summer Internship is offered at our macys.com offices in San Francisco, CA. The program starts in June.


Professional development begins on day one of your internship with a combination of structured, hands-on, and classroom-style learning. During internship program, you will spend some time with a mentor assigned by your manager to assist in leadership best-practices and help you grow through continuous constructive feedback. You’ll spend time with your team shadowing and learning. You will attend classroom training to learn leadership and presentation skills from our Learning and Development team. You will also have the opportunity to attend the Executive Speaker Series where you will hear an executive or team present on the projects they are currently working on.


In this role, you will analyze reporting to identify areas for immediate optimization such as pricing, inventory, promotions, and visual updates. You will partner with the experimentation team to optimize rules within browse search and by device. Working with merchant team, you will be identifying opportunities to optimize sales from pricing/promotions or in the inventory perspective. You will also partner with Analytics to identify KPI’s by event and socialize findings and recommendations with Merchant and Marketing teams. In your team, you will be tasked to help analyze site traffic and conversion metrics by event to optimize and drive conversion.

First things first, you will need a solid academic record, and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred in Marketing, Business, Merchandising, or similar majors.

We’ve also determined a few qualities that we seek in candidates. Intellectual curiosity, a positive attitude, and self-motivation are a great start. Beyond that, you should have a sincere passion for engaging with people—and the communication skills to match. We are also looking for leadership experience that includes professional business ethics, assertiveness, and an aptitude for helping others solve problems. Having a good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are key to success in this position. You should have excellent communication skills, be detail oriented, have strong analytical skills and be able to work well independently as well as a contributor in a team. To round out your skillset, you should possess strong business acumen, with the ability to analyze data and be able to understand how to build customer focused designs.
